Update on the MkI

I received a dedicated pack rack/battery rack combo, with a 36v LifePo4 custom battery and battery management system, all enclosed, and using Headway A38120LE batterries.

these things

Anyways the rack and battery themselves are fairly bulky, and mainly because of that they are not ncessarily something I would want to to continue incorporating in builds… BUT, as a “bolt-on” battery solution as an addition to my kits they are not too bad… and a cost that is comaparable to other battery technology (using commercial Pouch based, rather than round cell based packs, which are volumetrically smaller though same weight same power, and do additional enclosure and mounting hardware.)

Anyways, to get a “feel” for the rack/battery combo, I installed it on the Mk1, rmoving the previous rack, and while I was at it I put on a new rear mudguard.

here are some pics of the ne rack/battery combo installed

As a recap, the MKI is a kit-based build, and includes all the current kit mods that I provide on top of an “out of the box” straight-from-China e-bike conversion kit.

the mods and additions on the MK1 include:

Controller mounting hardware (u-bolts and protective plastic sleeve for mounting on Seat stay)

Breakout box (attached to controller, on/off switch, 30 amp fuse, Adjustable Low Voltage warning (visual and beeper alarm)

The breakout box encloses all the connectors that come from the controller and provides a routing point for cables to hand controls and motor. The top of the mounting box can be easily unscrewed for access to connectors.

With the addition of this new Battery pack, I am satisfied with the MKI as a functional sellable unit and a good example of a kit-based build.

I am still toying with cable routing ideas for the front controls and indicators, considering using a similar enclosure to the breakout box on the controller, but mounted on the handlebars, adn with some “dashboard” type functionality.
